They still may have come out ahead on this promotion, though. Not only is their music in the hands of more people who may buy future albums, but they might also stand to make a nice profit since downloads are essentially free for them to distribute.
I'll be interested to see what the band has to say about it when it's all said and done.

It's not that I'm really worried about whether or not they make money on it. I'm sure they have plenty. It's just the idea that people feel no social responsibility to pay for what they get.
