My goal for the Couch Potato Challenge was to see some of the iconic films I'd missed. I had never seen any of the Terminator movies and my governor is in them for crying out loud. (after having seen the movie, I can't say I'm sure how he made it into office) Normally, I would be perfectly alright with not having seen this movie, but I started watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles television show and really enjoyed it. In fact, I'm watching it as I blog this post! So I thought it might fill in some of the holes if I watched the movie.
I have to say it was somewhat painful to watch. I mean the clothes..oh my gosh. And the acting? Blech. But I do think there's something about all 80s movies that is painful for those reasons. And actually? It didn't really fill in any gaps. In fact, having watched the TV show probably ruined the movie b/c I knew exactly what was going on. So I have to say the television show did an excellent job of introducing all the necessary components of its story and it's much nicer to watch. I mean Brian Austin Green is even looking pretty hot.
So if you missed this movie...I suggest picking up the first season of the tv show instead.
Vader's Mom finished this challenge already and wins the 10 dollar Blockbuster gift card so she can get some nice current movies!

Aw, I like watching 80s movies, mostly so I can laugh at the costumes, the hair, etc.!
Didn't you just love the premiere of "Terminator" last night?
Some 80s movies make me cringe, but others are just so nostalgic for me. I loved the first couple terminator movies, and I always wondered how the terminator became your governor...i can't say I ever understood it...maybe its the kennedy political blood running through his wife's veins. LOL
Amy, the first Terminator movie was not a big hit. In Fact, it was just a cult hit. It was not until the second movie came out that it turned into the big special effects mega hit movie.
The new season started off just like I thought it would. I just thought it would take a few shows for them to capture Cameron and reprogram her chip. From what I understand a major character will die during season two.
Thomas
~I still love Terminator, even if it is a cheesy 80's flick. Of course I also count Lost Boys as one of my top ten movies.
I should have signed up for this because there are several films that have entered into pop culture fame that I haven't seen. Recently I just watched all of the Mission Impossible movies for the first time.
I remember watching Terminator when I was a kid and liking it but I probably wouldn't like it as much if I had seen it for the first time now. Early 90's movies are much better though!
I've never seen it either. Not that it's on my "to watch" list, either.
The TV show has done a really great job of filling in the back story.
Sarah Connor Chronicles came as a recommendation and I am getting those from Blockbuster. I LOVED the Terminator movies back then. I am not so sure I'd feel the same if I watched them again today.
wordlily--yeah, maybe I just wasn't in the right mood.
yes, I did love the premiere, Bobbi!
Thomas--thanks for the backstory, I didn't know! Are you saying I need to watch the other movies, now, too? boohiss on major character dying! Why do they tell us this stuff to make us worry?
Ladytink, I'm thinking of doing it again, but renaming it and changing it somehow. Still working on that.
Serena, you may be right about the Kennedy blood. ;)
Hagelrat--that's cool. we all like different things.
Ronnica--well, I didn't recommend it. ;)
Mari--yes it does. I do really like the show a lot, which surprised me.
J.Kaye...I hope you enjoy it!
