Discussion Question: Safe or Adventurous with Food?

A new day, a new discussion question!

When you go to a restaurant do you always order the same thing or do you try different items? (or do you have two you alternate between?)

This is inspired by Panera being out of the tomato mozzarella panini the other night (which is awesome btw) and me being forced to quickly choose something else. (Normally, I'd get the chicken salad sandwich but it was like a dollar cheaper and I didn't want to go through the refund hassle...they didn't realize they were out right away.)

So as you can see, I usually one or two things I always get. I'm boring as heck, but the worst is to spend money on something you might not like!!!

Yep. I alternate between two. That way, I can say 'I'm having something different today!' and not feel that boring..

I'm the same too. If there's something I particularly like, I'm going to order it, even if that means I order the same thing every time I go out to eat! I really don't like taking a chance on food when it's expensive. I'm much more likely to experiment at home when it's cheaper.

My fiance says I'm boring because he can always predict what I'm going to get, but at least he knows what I like in case I'm not there. =)

I usually stick with what I like at certain places! It's probably because I don't want to waste my money on something I won't like as much as the thing that I love there!

At Panera, I'd be more likely to branch out because I've never had anything bad there, except once my soup was lukewarm. But at other places, I tend to stick with 2-3 favorites!

I tend to order the same things once I find something I love. Actually Panera's is the one exception. I still haven't found my signature item yet.

I'm a safe eater, but my husband and son are adventurous. Sometimes I wish I would branch out a little bit. Maybe that should be my New Year's resolution.

At certain restaurants, like Bob Evans and Applebees, I get the same things, though there are several I alternate between, but at other restaurants I will sometimes get the same thing or try something new...it really depends upon my mood.

I have one or two I always get. I'm a fairly picky eater, but I also dont want to waste money on something I'll hate. We dont eat out very often, so when we do I want it to be good!

For me it depends on the restaurant. AT red lobster I know I am going to love move of it so I see what looks good that day. But there are restaurants like The Blue Bird cafe in the town where I went to college. Same thing every time. IT was sooo delicious. I even have developed a recipe quite similar to that one since I don't live near the restaurant now. :) SO for me it is totally dependant on the restaurant. IfI find something that is to die for, why try something else?

Bad Amy....you left us hanging, for what did you get????? I'm predictable.....if they don't have my usual then I'll get my safe follow up which is usually the soup and salad combo. Now if it is aplace I go to quite often and know that I could always get my fav the next time, then I'll branch out and try something I haven't before.
Or sometimes if I have a wild hair of a craving then I'll follow that (like for roast beef), yet usually I'm the same ole same ole....turkey.
(Just an exampe, ie: roast beef/turkey)

I play it safe sometimes but also get adventuresome too. If we're at a "big" restaurant, I might try something different - usually because the menu has changed from when we were there the last time. When we go to the local deli, I usually get the same thing - fajita chicken wrap. But every couple of weeks I try something different on the menu. The problem is nothing is as good as the fajita chicken! =)

I almost always order something different every time. Even if I loved what I had last time, I'll want to try something new.

My favorite type of restaurant is one with a daily menu, where you don't even know what's available that day until you walk in (this only works if the restaurant is consistently good, though!).

For the most part, I'm very predictable. I get the same things. Sometimes I'm adventurous when it comes to fish. I love it, but my husband doesn't so I never cook it at home, but often get it when we're out.

That tomato-mozzarella panini is amazing - in fact, I had one for lunch today. I'm somewhat predictable and generally only choose between two or three meals. Kind of boring, I know ...

Darby, ha! I got the turkey artichoke panini.

Betty and Boo's Mommy--I agree, it's awesome!

Amy, I think I am alone in saying I get something different every time, usually. There are one or two menu items I will fall back on in case of my adventure item being out of stock or whatever, but I love to try new things!!!!

I tend to play it safe. I'm adventurous that way.

I'll order most of the menu until I find what I really like and then I'll alternate between those things. If it's good, that's what I came for!

You are not boring Amy.

I tend to play it safe when picking a restaurant and or a meal.

I'm adventurous the first time I eat at a restaurant. But if I find something there that I like, I'll order it every time we go there.

My husband and I always order different entrees, so we end up splitting/sharing quite often.

I have to be in the mood to try something new but when I do, I usually find a new favorite. I love Panera BTW.

Ok, I'm boring too! We have a place here in VA that is to die for called Tropical Smoothies, when we go there I always get a Sunny Day smoothie, and the King Caesar wrap. At Red Robin, I always get their Fajita fiesta chicken salad. I too love Panera - got their turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce once, I was in heaven. But I, too have to be in a mood to try something new. Usually by the push of my husband or parents. LOL
