Today's question: Early Reviewers- do you participate? How many books (approximately) have you received through the program? Have you liked them generally? What's your favorite ER book? Do you participate in the discussion group on LT?
I decided to join in the fun today because I have an answer to this question! Yes, I participate in Early Reviewers and love it. In fact, I think I owe LT's ER discussion group for discovering many of my favorite bloggers. :)
I've received 7 books through the program, but only really during 5 cycles...last month (August) the book I "won" came with the complete series--3 books total. I really felt like I scored because only 10 people were chosen. I haven't hated any of the books like Marie, lol, but some were better than others. This month I got Allison Brennan's latest, which I'm certain I will enjoy.
My favorite that I've managed to read so far is probably The Richest Season...but I haven't read last month's or this month's yet. (the Read-a-thon is coming!)
I participate in the discussion group where my latest favorite thread is someone who is sick of the program because they haven't received any books lately. While I can sympathize with their disappointment, it's a bit ridiculous to complain about something that is optional and really just a bonus. But people in the ER group tend to bicker a little over things like the algorithm and whether or not the books are really free if you have to write a review. I love them anyway...book people are my people.

I mentioned one of your points in my post, too, Amy--ER introduced me to the wonderful world of book bloggers. If not for LT and ER, I wouldn't know y'all existed!
I found many book bloggers through ER as well. That's definitely been one of the most positive aspects of the discussion group!
I think it's great getting free books and wouldn't dream of complaining, even if the book didn't arrive at all, or if I didn't get any. I have received two and they were very good!
I've been following(lurking in) the "sick of ER" thread also. It is funny to hear someone snarking about such a silly thing, but I think alot of people don't realize how the choices are made. That weird algorithm :)
We have received the same books..yes, including the three...in the last few months. In fact we have recieved many of the same books in the ER program.
But I really did not like The Richest Season. It just goes to show...nothing. ;-)
You're right - the whining on that thread has gotten very old.
Lucky you getting the Allison Brennan book. I've heard great things about her books and have them in my TBR. I'm new to LT and only recently joined ER. I received one book so far and liked it.
I also follow the "sick of" threads and I think a lot of people forget that the publishers tell LibraryThing what to feed into the algorithm and where to send the books. Whiners. :)
I am the opposite...I discovered LT because of bloggers like you!
I've been in the ER universe on LT for a little over a month and I haven't recieved anything yet. Not complaining though - I mean free books, even the possibility of free books one day in the future - yeah, I can be happy with that :) I'm on LT, Goodreads, and Shelfari, and I love them all.
I know, I hate the bickering! They're free books people, we're not entitled to them! But I got The Richest Season through ER as well and enjoyed it.
The bickering in the ER group makes me chuckle. They are all so passionate about whether they SHOULD be receiving books or whether it's a crime to be wanting that. LOL
I have The Richest Season that I got for LT ER. I just haven't gotten to it yet. How bad am I?
I love, love, love, LT ER though and I love all of the book blogs I have found.
Amy(The Sleepy Reader)
I'm not as lucky as other book reviewers when it comes to LT. Perhaps because I only have a free account. I dunno. I've gotten one out of the many that I've requested
Great Topic Amy. Serena I have a free account and got my first ER from LT this month. So don't give up. Its amazing the things people will complain about isn't it. For me I love to read so if it means when I get a book I have to review it, its well worth it. LT has also introduced me to the blooger world as well. I would never complain if i didn't get a free book. To me its like entering a contest and that is exactly what the ER program is a contest. Your not going to win all the time. Sorry for rambling on LOL
I've been following (silently) the sick thread, too. I've chuckled at some of the comments. I think it's even funnier because really, all these same people have to do is a little legwork (well, fingerwork), and they could have more 'free' books than they can handle. I've gotten 6 books from the ER program so far, but I've gotten 79 from other sources just in the past 9 months.
I didn't know The Richest Season was an ER book. They always have such great books.
I saw the thread you're talking about. Poor Abby. She is so awesome, the program is so awesome. Some people.
I have just been to busy to get involved with LT, but my question is this: Does the review have to go up on Library Thing?
Yeah, for the Early Reviewers program, I just love it. I enjoyed checking out your blog:)
