There's no place to classify the movies you watched on DVD that may come from many different years, so this is my category for the movies I enjoyed on DVD in 2008.
Lars and the Real Girl
I do think Ryan Gosling is one of the best actors out there period. This movie really surprised me...it was sweet in unexpected ways.
The Lives of Others
Another movie that surprised me and which I highly recommend.
Martian Child
I don't know what else I could possibly say about this wonderful little movie--except I love John Cusack and I cried my eyes out.
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Um, yeah, watched this for the first this year. Kind of drove me crazy right up to the end, but it has certainly stuck with me.
By the way, last year I did the Couch Potato Challenge which was a sort of challenge to encourage each other to watch movies we think we should have seen but hadn't. I was thinking of revising it to be more Awards focused and expanding it for a year. What do you think? I know it's not a reading challenge but I think it could be fun. Let me know if you would be interested in comments.

The Lives of Others :: Again, great choice. One of my favorite movies of last year. I was sad when the lead actor died shortly after the film was released.
Oooh I'm not really familiar with the Couch Potato Challenge but that sounds like something I would LOVE!
I hope you do the couch potato challenge again! This time, I promise my life won't explode so I can actually participate. =)
Oh, I wholeheartedly second the emotion re: Lars and the Real Girl. It was just delightful, andit had a great message but didn't pound you over the head with it.
What's the scoop on the couch potato challenge? I'd love to join if there are openings. :)
Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies!
I almost picked up Lars and the Real Girl last night at the movie rental place but my daughter talked me into Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2 instead.
I like the challenge idea Amy, focusing on award winners or nominees.
I only saw Lars one time (in the theater on opening night, of course) but I really liked it. It surprised me how sweet it was. Ryan was wonderful as usual. Even with the ugly stache.
Couch potato? Count me in!
I caught Martian Child on HBO a couple of months ago, watching the second half before I saw the first--I don't recommend watching movies this way. I don't remember having heard of it before then, but I was really drawn to it. The Couch Potato idea sounds like fun! I'm always up for watching movies. :-)
Stephen..not sure I knew that. that is very sad.
Rebecca...it was great wasn't it.
Jen..you are so funny. ;)
Swapna...it was good, but I had to get through the whole thing to appreciate it.
Wendy...I hate catching only part of movies, but I did love Martian Child.
And yay to everyone being up for the Couch Potato challenge...does anyone have a better name for it though?
