Jessie Stone wants nothing more than to be married. She daydreams all the time about the perfect man and proposal. She jealously watches as others get what she wants for herself. She enthusiastically participates in speed dating and online matchmaking services looking for the one man of her dreams. Oh and she's secretly in love with best friend, Blake.
God has other plans for Jessie. He shows up one day and asks her to surrender her plans. That's right, he literally shows up!
Never the Bride is a fun read. It's a first person light and funny read, much like chick lit. There were a few scenes where I laughed out loud quite a bit.
But there was something about it that was just a bit strange to me. I can't really say anything without giving away a huge plot point, but it was all just a little too over the top. Also, I got frustrated with Jessie because, really, there's more to life than finding a man and once you find one, it's not all happiness and perfection.
Having said that, I did enjoy the book and like I said, found parts of it quite funny!

I am currently -re-reading the Aubrey/Maturin canon by Patrick O'Brian and "Master and Commander" has some wonderful, witty Jane Austen-like moments that make me laugh aloud on the subway.
The last Christian book I read with a lot of humour was A Passion Denied: the banter between Brady and Colin and how clueless they both were about women made me chuckle.
I was just telling Deborah that I wanted to read this book! Anyway, I recently laughed when I read THE FIXER UPPER by Mary Kay Andrews.
I remember laughing out loud when reading Julie and Romeo Get Lucky by Jeanne Ray.
This one looks so fun! The last book that made me laugh out loud? Agent in Old Lace, by Tristi Pinkston.
This is a book I would really love, as it appears to be a love relationship with God.
