I'm going to surprise you one of these weeks and watch the movie so I can discuss it!
We enjoyed the movie. Neither of us had seen it before. It was pretty clear that it was originally a stage play and yes the furniture was incredibly ugly.
When Tony was talking Swann through all his manipulations to blackmail him, The Hubster commented that Tony reminded him of Ben Linus ;-)
Picking up Rear Window at the library this afternoon. I've seen that one before, but The Hubster hasn't.
Hitchcock directed this film beautifully. I liked seeing a different drama played out all in one room, like Rear Window, but with a completely different feel. All the actors were superb! I was surprised to read that is was originally filmed in 3-D.
North by Northwest was, obviously, much more action-packed but both were essentially dramas of mistaken perceptions/identities. My son felt Dial M had close tie-in's with The Rope, but I also saw similarities with Vertigo.
I will definitely be here for the Rear Window discussion. I started watching it last night but fell asleep but I'm sure I will find time to finish it sometime this week.
So, I got North by Northwest from Netflix and there were so many scratches that we couldn't watch. I reported it as damaged and they sent me a new copy. I opened it up and it was broken in half. It is like I'm not meant to watch this movie. My third copy comes tomorrow so we'll see. I'm giving them one more chance to get it right.
I finally saw this last night. I watched it years ago but forgot a lot, although I remembered that darn key! I haven't seen NXNW but I did see Rear Window a few months ago. Loved it.
Dial M was very dramatic. I thought the acting was great but I did have a few laughs. What a rockin' Stag Party, huh? ;)
I finally got around to watching this! I'm going to try and catch up with a North by Northwest post tomorrow.
