Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme that asks...what pre-publication book can't you wait to read?
Well, I snagged quite a few ARCs of books I'm looking forward to reading at BEA, but this one has the book lust all stirred up in my heart again.
About the Book: As a Chinese adoptee in St. Louis, teenage Daiyu often feels out of place. When an elderly Asian jewelry seller at a street fair shows her a black jade ring—and tells her that “black jade” translates to “Daiyu”—she buys it as a talisman of her heritage. But it’s more than that; it’s magic. It takes Daiyu through a gateway into a version of St. Louis much like 19th century China. Almost immediately she is recruited as a spy, which means hours of training in manners and niceties and sleight of hand. It also means stealing time to be with handsome Kalen, who is in on the plan. There’s only one problem. Once her task is done, she must go back to St. Louis and leave him behind forever. . . .
Amy here: There are three major reasons I want to read this book. If you can guess all three, I'll send you something special....a limited edition My Friend Amy Blogger Trading Card from BEA 09! SIGNED! I'm not kidding! I do realize this will be the hottest giveaway going on right now, so I'm only going to keep this amazing(!!!) giveaway open today. So don't be shy! Guess away as to why I want to read this amazing book coming from Viking Juvenile in October.

1. St. Louis 2. Asia 3. Spies I already have one of your trading cards, but it's not signed.
I just got my box and my trading card is autographed!
You're too funny! I have no idea what your three reasons are, but I will guess that two of them are the romance and the Asian themes. Mostly I just wanted to say that I think this book looks awesome.
And you don't have to send me your trading card, I think you've sent overseas me enough lately ;)
1. Sharon Shinn 2. Sharon Shinn 3. Sharon Shinn. No other reason needed. She's an amazing writer!
I think Bermudaonion has probably hit the nail on the head. At least, I know St. Louis is one of them because it's one of the reasons I want to read it too! We so rarely get novels set in our hometown. :)
I love Sharon Shinn!! I hadn't heard that she has a new book coming out. This is great news. This one sounds fantastic.
I'm late but I wanted to say this story sounds great. I'll be looking for your review. And the cover is gorgeous.
Oh, I love Sharon Shinn! I can't wait until this one comes out.
The cover to this book is fabulous! The book description sounds great too! I'm adding this one to my list right now.
