Jill, Ms. Fizzy Thoughts herself, accused me of being a rabid fan of Melissa Marr's Tales of Faerie and I suppose it's true. I really love the world that Marr created, enough to buy this manga and give it a go.
And hey...I enjoyed it! I don't exactly know how to review something like this that takes just a few...maybe thirty minutes to read. But it takes the world of faerie out to the desert...to Rika a former winter girl of Keenan's. Rika lives out in the desert where she is isolated and enjoying her freedom...and falls for a human. So this is the beginning of that story...what happens when Rika starts feeling strongly for someone she shouldn't. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would...I think I just love these faerie!
I find reading manga and graphic novels and such to be a different sort of reading experience. Instead of allowing my brain to race ahead and predict based on the text on the page, I'm forced to slow down because half of the story is told through the pictures. I'm not sure I'm totally sold on the idea, but I do read these things to get more of various worlds that I'm already attached to. (like Buffy)
I suppose the real test will be to read something of which I have no prior context for my brain's prediction. This is actually all very interesting to me based on what I do for a living! While I generally subscribe to the idea that pictures aid a brain's prediction of what the text is about (why we have pictures in books for kids) pictures that tell part of the story is all very different!!!
Anyway, I liked this a lot and will keep reading them. If you enjoy the books, I suspect you will like this as well!

I didn't realize there were graphic novels attached to the series! I will be looking for them now though. I haven't read too many graphic novels but so far I do like them.
I remember Beth Fish reviewing an audio called Wicked Lovely (she said it was one of the best she had ever heard!!), but I think that was something different from this.
I didn't know there were graphic novels for this series either. Is it the same story in graphic form or does it expand on the story? Who does the illustrations?
I have Melissa's books from her book signing, but I haven't started them yet. She talked about the manga at her signing, but I've never been into graphic novels, although my kids at school love them! I may have to give this one a try.
I enjoyed Wicked Lovely and I have read some graphic novels (Sandman, Fray, and Watchmen), so I think this would be for me!
I had no idea Marr had also released manga! I've got to admit, I wasn't as taken with WICKED LOVELY as everyone else, but I did enjoy it and certainly intend to read the other books. This one sounds good.
You are right, these books don't let you race ahead :) and for that i like them.
I'm never going to live that comment down, am I? :-)
I like reading manga. Especially vampire romance manga. :) I can't get into graphic novels as much, though, for some reason.
I didn't know she had written manga! Awesome!
You're right, it is a different sort of reading experience. But I think that with time and practice you notice the differences less!
Haha "rabid fan" I like that! Marr is a favorite of mine too and I can't wait to read the graphic novels. Now if only the waiting list at the library would move along quicker :)
I didn't know about these books! I like graphic novels and now I'll have to look into these.
