R.I.P. IV (but my first!)

Last week I posted about loving seasonal reading pretty much from September through December (though the types of books change obviously from kill me with fear! to kill me with sentimentality!) and this is a challenge I am looking forward to joining as it relatively simple and loads of fun and already fitting in with everything I want to read anyway should I actually have any reading time.

But please do yourself a favor and go read the introduction post from Carl who is a superb writer and will get you all in the mood for the challenge and gaze upon the images for this challenge that I happen to think are absolutely magnificent!

Okay, now that you're back here are some of the books I'm considering:

The Ghost Writer by John Harwood (I neglected to mention that I bought this immediately after reading Melody's review.)
Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith (crosses with my challenge!)
Heartsick by Chelsea Cain (been sitting on the shelf for like two years!)
The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (bought after seeing prominently displayed in an episode of Supernatural)
Ancestral Shadows: An Anthology of Ghostly Tales by Russell Kirk
The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe (which I just sort of hope fits into this)
Half-Minute Horrors (A collection of instant frights from the world's most astonishing authors and artists--just showed up on my doorstep today!)
Afraid by Jack Kilborn
Goth by Otsuichi

And I'll probably think of many more! Now I'm going to take on Peril the First and hope for the best. Also, could someone please order some cooler weather for us here in Southern California. I'm still a midwestern girl at heart and prefer my literary chills with...well, real chills. :)

Happy scary reading everyone!

I just heard about this too and I'm going to try for Peril the First. I read supernatural stuff all the time but want to try some seriously freaky stuff for this challenge!

I just cannot resist this challenge! And I'm glad you're considering reading The Ghost Writer!! I loved that book and I can't wait to hear what you'll think of it!!

I saw this, and I just groaned. I am in over my head. In fact, I am at the bottom of the sea right now! Otherwise I'd be all over this. I must resist. But your choices Amy! Awesome. Ghost Writer is fabulous, and now he has Seance out too, which I must get my hands on. The Historian is incredible (big too). I also have Let the Right One In and Deliverance Dane on my shelves. Sigh. I should probably do this, huh?

So much fun seeing everyone's lists for the annual RIP. I don't think I have a strong enough constitution for 'let the Right One In' but it's suppoused to be very cool.

I loved the The Physick Book. I read it as The Lost Book of Salem. Great list there!

I think I'm going to try to race through 20 TBR books so I can treat myself to Let the Right One In without breaking the rules ;) Happy RIP reading, Amy!

It's your first year!!! Oh you are in for a treat! I have the Harwood on my list too. And of course the Vampire Diaries. The Historian is fantastic, one of my favorite books. And I would say The Physick book fits, since it about the Salem Witch Trials. Have fun!

Good luck! I can't imagine when you're going to find the time, though!

I am so glad you are joining us this year! Woo-hoo!!! I do like to keep my challenges laid back and just let everyone have a good time immersing themselves in creepy reading. You've got a fantastic list of books there.

You mentioned seeing The Historian on a television show. I love it when that happens in a tv show or film. I've picked up books for that very same reason.

Excellent selections!

Welcome to the challenge! I hope you enjoy, Amy! It's really fun because it is so flexible and relaxed. I've really discovered some great books in the three years I've done it...like The Historian!!! Have you read The Thirteenth Tale? If you haven't, it may be one you'd enjoy.

Nice list - I am still hesitant about joining the challenge due to some time constraints I already see coming up in the near future, but seeing everyone excitedly posting about this challenge really make me want to join the fun!

I started Let the Right One in, earlier in the year, but had to return it to the library before I could finish it :( What I did read was excellent though.

(And I picked up the DVD the other day)

Amy, this is seriously my favorite challenge of the year. You have a great list of books to pull from. I can't wait to read all your reviews!

Yay! I'm so glad you're joining the challenge! This is my first, also, and I'm so excited. You've picked out some great books. As you know, I LOVED AFRAID!

The Ghost Writer is at the top of my list for this year's RIP Challenge. Can't wait to get started. I can't help you with the weather. As a native of SoCal and now a resident of CentralCal I have learned that cooler weather never comes before Halloween. Ever.

I've signed up for the first time, this year, too! If you want to see my list (reading pool) it's here.
