There's something about the reading we do when we're younger that is special and memorable. And it's yet another shared experience so many of us have...we loved the same books when we were young.
I absolutely LOVED The Baby-sitters Club. I was completely obsessed. I saved up my allowance to buy the books. I joined a club through the book order that sent me BSC stationary, and knick-knacks. I (and this is completely embarrassing) even asked my teachers to call me by the names of the characters in the book. (okay me and my friends) I longed to have the exciting lives of the characters in the Baby-sitters Club.
So when I discovered the society of readers (otherwise known as book bloggers) and so many others who loved these books, I knew we had to celebrate them! And it turns out we're just in time...a prequel to these beloved books of our youth is being published this April!
Every day this week, bloggers will be presenting posts at their blog on the subject of The Baby-sitters Club. Posts filled with memories, reviews, character spotlights and more! And who knows what other goodies we'll come up with!
Today's Posts
Claire from Paperback Reader presents a round-up of recent BSC links found and nostalgic comment.
Cass from Bonjour Cass reviews the first four graphic novel adaptations of the books!
Ashley of Ashley's Library spotlights the character of Mary Ann.
Zee from Notes from the North reviews Baby-Sitters Summer Vacation Super Special #2.
Happy reading everyone! And come back tomorrow for BSC goodness! In the meantime....who was your favorite character?

YAY-BSC week! My favorite character was Stacey. I loved that she was blonde (I wanted to be blonde), from NYC, and was good at math (my favorite subject in 2nd grade when I first started reading the books). I also liked Mary Anne a lot and Claudia was okay once I moved past her awful clothing and spelling.
I have to admit, I didn't get in on this mania when I was younger. Where was I? Probably reading V.C. Andrews or something. What a great idea though, and such a trip on memory lane.
I loved these books! I didn't participate this week because mine are all far away and I didn't think I'd remember enough to do a post on them. I do know my favorite character was Mary Ann, though, and I'm looking forward to all the posts this week!
Thanks for hosting BSC week! I have loved the trip down nostalgia lane and look forward to reading all the posts this week. I was obsessed with the series and loved Claudia and Stacey (and Dawn too, if memory serves).
How fun! I was another one who was addicted to these books when I was young - thanks for hosting this! :)
I was so addicted to these books as a kid - I would get 5 or 6 out of the library at a time! I loved Mary Ann and Kristy - they were complete opposites and such great friends too!
I loved the Baby-Sitters Club too. I have to say Kristy was always my favorite. I even watched the tv show that use to air on HBO, and still sometimes get the theme song stuck in my head. LOL!
Stacey was definitely my favorite, followed by Dawn, I think. When I was first reading the books in 3rd grade I didn't realize how horrendous Claudia's clothing choices really were and tried to wear two non-matching socks, or do the ice cream scoop thing with my socks to dress like her. Her spelling always bothered me, though.
I think this is absolutely wonderful, Amy! I am dating myself by saying that BSC was after my time, but I remember my younger sisters reading them. I was "too old" to pay that much attention. Was one of the characters named Mallory? I think that's why I now have a niece named Mallory.
Enjoy your week!
Hands down, my favorite was Stacey. But...I was probably a blend between Kristy and Mary Anne. I so badly wanted to be sophisticated and dribbly fresh!
How awesome! And what a coincidence, I just finished watching The Baby-Sitters Club movie about a half hour ago!
My favorite characters growing up would have been a toss up between Stacey and Claudia. Both were so hip and definitely way more sophisticated than I. Now, since I'm an adult, I would choose Mary Ann because she was so down to earth.
Oh I loved the Babysitters Club! Stacey and Dawn were my favorites. I can't believe how long ago that was...seems like I was just reading those books :)
What a great idea! I loved the Baby-Sitters Club when I was younger and I think the new graphic novel adaptations are great. Mary Anne was definitely my favorite, with Stacey a close second!
I loved these books, too. My favorite characters were Mary Ann and Stacey. How's this for embarrassing: my handwriting teacher thought I was deficient because I insisted on dotting all my lowercase is with hearts for the entirety of third grade, like Stacey. If I recall correctly, a parent-teacher conference was held about the matter.
Yay! Loved this series and had so much fun rereading one of them for this week. Definitely going to have to look for more. My favorite character was either Dawn or Claudia. I loved Dawn's independence and Claudia's creative streak.
Yay! How fun. I loved these books as a kid. I probably won't have time to reread one, but I look forward to reading everyone's posts about them :)
Hey There! I'm 23 and have been reading these since I was super young.... my sister Laura would always read to me because she was really into them (she's 5 years older than me) and although we've drifted apart over the years (because of my sickness I still live with my mom -But it's cool because we get along amazingly!) I can always think back about those times she would read to me and smile (and sometimes get weepy like Mary Anne!) my 2 favorite BSC books were: Boy-Crazy Stacy & Dawn And The Disappearing Dogs! hehe just recently I've gotten back into them -Because after moving across the state I happened to be going through some boxes and found some BSC books that when my sister left at 17 (which was terribly sad for me since she was my only friend) she left them behind.... So I've just started reading them again and I love them even more now! Some make me burst-out laughing (Like when Alan Gray would put M&M's in his eyes and say he was "Little Orphan Annie"! haha) some make me giggle like a school-girl (like when a cute boy shows up!) and some make me cry (like when Mimi passed away.... or when Kristy's Collie Louie died) All-in-All The BSC has made my life better just by making me forget my troubles (and pain) for awhile when I snuggle up under a blanket, kick back, relax and read....... Sorry for writing so much... I just really wanted to share this! It's great to know there are still BSC Fans out there! Take care! -Natty
PS: Something SO funny: I was ALMOST named "Stacey Elizabeth"! (So it's like a nick-name for me)
