Welcome to Faith and Fiction Saturday, a weekly discussion on the intersection of faith and fiction. You are welcome to participate by writing a post on your own blog or leaving your thoughts in comments.
This week I read a book I loved with my whole heart in a way few books invite, and gave it an enthusiastic review. While I focused on how this book salvaged my love for romances in the review, something I forgot to mention is how Tamera Alexander makes me perfectly happy to read books set out West, in early American civilization. The kind of books I normally wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
Sometimes there are authors who write so well, so convincingly, that we happily follow them wherever they take us even if it's a place we normally would drag our feet to.
For me, Tamera Alexander is that kind of author. She creates such convincing loveable characters and uses her setting and chosen time period to enhance and echo their emotional journeys. And so I love the books!
How about you? Have you ever found yourself surprised to be delighted with a book set outside of your normal preferences? Is there an author who could write about anything and you'd follow?
For the record, I have some other authors like that, but for today, I'll just celebrate Tamera Alexander.

John Krakauer. He could write about tree bark, and I would be fascinated.
I completely agree with you on Tamera Alexander. The first book I read of hers was From a Distance and I was drawn to it at Barnes and Noble by the beautiful cover. I read the whole thing in one day from a big comfy chair in the store. After that I had to read everything she's written (I purchased future titles). I never been disappointed.
Another author like that for me is Rachel Hauck. I'm not a fan of country music, but I'll follow her anywhere, and enjoy the trip. LOL.

I read Tamera Alexander for the first time a few weeks ago (one of the first books I read on my Kindle). I loved the book -- it had been a while since I had read a historical book. I always enjoy Karen Kingsbury's books -- she never disappoints me.
Hi amy, i recently reviewed masquerade by Nancy Moser. I have to admit getting your emails about your experiences with Inspirational Fiction was a factor in me requesting it. I have always had preconceptions of what Christian Fiction was and since my personal faith is a mixture of many things I honestly thought Christin Fiction wsnt for me. I loved Nancy's book and I'm grateful I started Blogging since it's helped me meet so many wonderful people and read outside my normal genres.
Candace Calvert. When I was first asked to review a romance/medical drama novel, I was skeptical I'd like it but decided to try it. I've read all three of her novels now, and I firmly believe I'd would love any novel she decided to write.
